People living in or travelling through Faversham are asked to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke from a fire at a commercial premises on Preston Street.

Seven fire engines and a height vehicle are in attendance and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, are using main jets to extinguish the flames.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident earlier this afternoon (31st).

Reports online suggest the fire is near the Alexander Centre - the high street remains cordoned off.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said "Keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke from the fire. Please share this information with loved ones in the area who might be without internet access."
