'Unknown substance' thrown at police officers in Kent

A town centre road was shut off and a man arrested after the incident

Kent Police have arrested a man after an 'unknown substance' was thrown at four officers.

The force was called to reports of a man damaging property at an address in Knightrider Street in Maidstone yesterday evening (Sunday 17 March).

In a statement, the force has confirmed:

"On arrival at the address, four police officers had an unknown substance thrown at them and were treated at the scene."

The man in question was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting emergency workers and has been taken into custody.

The force has told Greatest Hits that "officers remain at the scene carrying out enquiries (18 March) and part of the street is closed while the investigation continues.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “KFRS was called at 5.53pm yesterday (17 March) to assist Kent Police in Knightrider Street, Maidstone.

“Two fire engines attended, as well as a hazardous materials unit."
