Two further arrests made in connection to Chatham murder investigation

Police are appealing to locals who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident

Kent Police have arrested two further suspects have after a man died in hospital following a reported assault in Chatham.

Officers were called at around 4.55pm on Monday 1 April 2024, after the man in his 30s was found with injuries at a property in the High Street.

The victim was taken by air ambulance to a London hospital, his death has since been confirmed.

It is alleged the victim may have been assaulted earlier in the day between 11am and 2pm in an access road that runs between Luton Road and Newnham Street, near the junction with Magpie Hall Road.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are also investigating reports he suffered injuries during a previous assault in the High Street. This happened between the junctions with Upbury Way and Institute Road, at around 10.45pm on Saturday 30 March.

Two men aged 32 and 35, were arrested in connection with the incident on Saturday 6 April and Sunday 7 April, respectively.

Both of the suspects have since been released on bail pending further investigation.

A 43-year-old who was arrested on Thursday 4 April is also on bail while a fourth man, detained on Monday 1 April, has now been released without charge.

Kent Police continuing to urge anyone who witnessed either of the incidents to call the appeal line. Drivers with dashcam and residents with private CCTV in the area, are also being asked to check for relevant footage.
