Two people from Kent have been charged after a man was hit by a car in an Essex shopping centre car park last week.

On Friday evening (January 5), Essex Police were called to Lakeside shopping centre by the ambulance service, where a man in his 20s had been hit by a car in Car Park D, close to Coco Asia.

The incident took place just before midnight, at around 11:55pm, after the victim had been at Puttshack earlier in the evening.

He and a friend left the venue and the man was struck whilst crossing the car park, by a Silver Vauxhall Corsa, before being abandoned.

The friend was uninjured, but the victim is still in hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

Police arrested two people from Gravesend on Sunday, who have since been charged with GBH with intent.

18-year-old Sophie Kular, and 23-year-old Brandon Stewart, both of Hampton Crescent in Gravesend, are due to appear at Southend Magistrates' Court today (January 9).

Stewart has also been charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

Police are continuing to appeal for information and any CCTV or dash cam footage.
