The trial of a man charged with the attempted murder of an Army officer in uniform near a barracks in Kent is set to take place in January next year.

Left-tenant Colonel Mark Teeton was attacked from behind and stabbed on the ground outside his home at Sally Port Gardens, in Gillingham, on July 24th.

The father-of-two was airlifted to hospital soon after the attack near Brompton Barracks.

However, four weeks on from the alleged attempted murder, he has been discharged.

24-year-old Anthony Esan was arrested later that day, charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

A hearing at Maidstone Crown Court today (August 22nd) was told Anthony Esan is accused of repeatedly stabbing Lieutenant Colonel Mark Teeton.

He's yet to enter any pleas and has been remanded in custody.

Judge Philip St John-Stevens set a trial date of January 20th next year at Maidstone Crown Court.

A three week trial's expected to be held- but, before that, the 24 year old is due at another hearing next month.

Esan will next appear at the same court on September 23rd for a plea hearing.

Sally Port Gardens is half a mile from the Brompton Barracks, the headquarters of the British Army's 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment.

Lt Col Mark Teeton is a long-standing serving member of the British Army who has been been a course manager for almost six years at the 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment.
