Suspect charged with attacking police officer in Canterbury

A suspect has appeared in court, charged with attacking a police officer in Canterbury.

Kent Police was called at 9.05pm on Thursday 29 August 2024, after an incident in Wincheap in which a man had reportedly been assaulted by another man.

Officers attended and a suspect was quickly identified and arrested nearby. During the arrest, a police officer was reportedly assaulted.

Charges

Ashley Munchin has since been charged with attempting to wound the officer with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The 37-year-old, of no fixed address, has also been charged with assaulting the member of the public involved, and causing criminal damage to the man's ear pods.

Mr Munchin appeared before Folkestone Magistrates' Court on Saturday 31 August and was remanded in custody to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 30 September.
