After a week of sunshine, a skin cancer survivor from Kent is urging the importance of protecting yourself from the sun.

Across the county, temperatures could once again reach reach 26C in place such as Maidstone, Medway, Gravesend and Canterbury.

With the hot weather comes dangerous levels of UV radiation and Dean Smith, from Ashford, who has been living with skin cancer for 15 years is trying to raise awareness of skin protection.

Dean said: "I'm fair skinned so I've got a lot freckles and moles.

"I have 6 monthly check ups where they check my skin for any changes and since that first one was removed 15 years ago I've probably had 12 removed from my body.

"I'm now very conscious of looking at my skin and any changes that happen. If you do spot anything that changes shape or itchy, or even a little speck, then it's important that you do get it checked out because you'll be very surprised at what is cancerous.

"At the end of the day, it's your health. You may look good and have a nice tan but it can cause cancer and unchecked that can cause serious health issues.

"You can go out in the sun, but be very careful with what you do and protect yourself. Make sure you've got sun cream on and don't spend too much time in the sun."
