A man has been arrested after a car crashed into the front window of a Thai restaurant in Margate.

Police were called to TY-8 in Northdown Road shortly after midnight on Sunday.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: "Officers attended the scene, where damage to a building had also been reported and a cordon was set up as a precaution following concerns about a possible gas leak.

"A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with the collision. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

"Following work to make the gas safe, and building assessments by a structural engineer, the two vehicles were recovered and the scene was clear at around 4.30am."

On social media, TY-8 said it would be closed until further notice.

They added: "Thank you for your condolences. Our family is safe and unharmed."
