Rape investigation in Sheerness concludes without action
Police had been looking into reports of an attack at a supermarket
An investigation into an alleged rape in Sheerness has been dropped by Kent Police.
They received reports of a woman being attacked while inside toilets at the Tesco store in Bridge Road a week ago (Tuesday 1st October 2024).
Detectives have spoken to a number of witnesses and also looked at CCTV, but they say all lines of enquiries have been exhausted.
The force say it appears what happened wasn't as first described, but they're reassuring people they always treat reports of this kind very seriously.
Investigating officer Detective Inspector Samantha Stuart said:
"Kent Police will always take reports of sexual offences against women and girls extremely seriously and will always respond positively, ensuring that officers carry out detailed enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding any allegation.
"I want to provide reassurance to the community that we have carried out a thorough investigation and are satisfied that there is no wider risk to the public.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank those who came forward to assist our investigation."
