Police officer seriously injured in Sittingbourne disturbance

A suspect is to appear at court, charged with a serious assault on a police officer near Sittingbourne.

At around 6am on Sunday 22 October 2023, patrols were called to a report of a disturbance on Church Lane, Newington.

They attended the scene and after approaching an address, after concerns for the welfare of a woman, it is reported four constables were assaulted with one receiving serious facial injuries. The officers were treated by paramedics at the scene, with two requiring subsequent medical attention.

Arrests

Four men and three women were arrested on suspicion of assault and public order offences.

On the following day, Luke Crowley, of Lowe Road, Canning Town, London was charged with wounding a police officer with intent to prevent the arrest of another and a public order offence.

Mr Crowley, aged 32, was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 24 October.

Further charges

Lauren Walsh, of Winstanley Road, Sheerness and Emma Tatham, of Church Lane, Sittingbourne were both charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a public order offence. In addition, Kerry Crowley, of Church Lane, Sittingbourne was charged with a public order offence.

Ms Crowley, aged 52; Ms Tatham, aged 30 and Ms Walsh, aged 20 have been bailed to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 30 November.

Two men aged 22 and 36 were bailed to return to the police station on 23 January 2024, and a further man was later released without charge.
