Extra police in Canterbury to tackle anti-social behaviour

Extra police are being sent on patrol in Canterbury to tackle anti-social behaviour.

It follows reports of teenagers attempting to steal belongings from other young people in the Dane Johns Garden and city wall areas.

A dispersal order's now in place until Friday afternoon, allowing officers to disperse groups who gather in the city centre.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said they received reports "of a group of teenagers approaching other teenagers in the Dane John Gardens and city wall areas on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 March 2024, attempting to steal belongings.

"The incidents are under investigation and officers are working to identify those involved."

Those who refuse to comply will be arrested by Kent police officers.

Inspector Paul Stoner, of Canterbury’s Community Safety Unit, said:

"There is no place for anti-social behaviour in Canterbury, or anywhere else in Kent, and our officers will be taking robust action against anyone found to be causing problems for others.'

"The extra officers brought in to the city this week will be stopping and speaking to any groups seen acting suspiciously with the aim of preventing further offences from occurring."

Anyone with information about the incidents in Dane John Gardens on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 March is urged to call Kent Police.
