With snow a possibility across parts of Kent this weekend, a homeless charity is warning that some of the most vulnerable people may lose their lives, due to the harsh weather

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across the county, lasting throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Neil Charlick is of Gillingham Street Angels, and he said: "The most vulnerable will be the street homeless in this kind of weather and you hope that no one will loose their life but sadly these things happen.

"And, with the snow coming in, we are well stocked up on things such as blankets, sleeping bags, socks and warm clothing.

"Though people can still donate, anything that will keep someone warm can be passed on to us which we can can then give to those who need it. We can't do this kind of thing without the help of those in the community so we appreciate all the support we can get.

"All we can ask is people if look for the support that's out there, find the people who will help and just make sure you stay safe in this sort of weather."

Kate Langford, Chief Medical Officer at NHS Kent and Medway, also said: “Prolonged cold weather can be a risk for anyone, but those who are vulnerable, including elderly people, those with breathing difficulties, and children under five, are particularly at risk.

“If you have a family member, friend or neighbour who might be vulnerable please do keep an eye out for them.

"Should you do need NHS help, NHS 111, online or via phone, is there for you and we list all pharmacies and urgent treatment centres.
