Kent Police have arrested two people they believe to have been selling stolen goods on the street in Maidstone.

Officers stopped the two people when they were found at a location close to Bank Street in the town on Thursday (September 12th).

Patrolling officers soon seized a number of bags, each containing different quantities of goods including chocolate, blocks of cheese and steaks.

The alert was first raised when CCTV operators noticed unusual behaviour on Thursday, resulting the patrols in the area.

At 5:30pm on Thursday evening, two people - a 43-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman - were arrested on suspicion of theft and soon taken into custody.

It is believed that the goods had been stolen from at least on Co-op shop, though investigations are now ongoing into whether other local branches were targeted.

An appeal for information has been launched following the arrests, with members of the public recognising any suspicious behaviour being urged to get in touch.

Anyone who may have seen a robbery take place can get in touch with Kent Police by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 46/155070/24.
