M2 junction 5 improvements: drivers warned of further disruption

Drivers are being warned of further disruption at a busy motorway interchange in Kent, despite the reopening of a slip road.

The M2 coastbound exit for Sittingbourne on the A249 roundabout reopened on Monday after being closed for almost a month.

The existing Stockbury roundabout is being replaced with a new interchange, which includes a flyover to provide free-flowing movement on the A249.

The Stockbury flyover is due to be opened in July.

National Highways is planning further lane closures as work continues on the multi-million pound project.

Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 June: a lane will be closed on the A249 northbound (towards Sittingbourne) between Church Hill and the Stockbury Roundabout between 8pm and 5am each night while cables are installed under the carriageway.

The dedicated slip road to the M2 coastbound from the A249 south of the roundabout will also be closed.

Wednesday 12 to Tuesday 18 June: the A249 southbound (towards Maidstone) will be closed between the Bobbing and Stockbury Roundabouts from 8pm to 5am each night.

During the closure, a diversion will be in place via Sheppey Way, A2, Hoath Way, and M2 J5. Non-motorway traffic will use Sheppey Way, A2, A229, A249.

Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July: the A249 northbound between the Stockbury and Key Street Roundabouts will be closed from 8pm to 5am each night.

During the closure, a diversion will be in place via the M2, Hoath Way, A2, Sheppey Way and A249. Non-motorway traffic will use the A249, A229, A2, Sheppey Way and A249.
