Knife seized after man seen 'acting suspiciously' in Chatham

Officers have seized a knife in Chatham, near to the bus station.

Patrolling officers have seized a knife after a man was seen acting suspiciously in Chatham.

The local patrol was near the town centre on Friday 12 July 2024 when they saw three men who were known to them.

As the officers went to approach the trio, they all ran from the area.

The officers gave chase on foot and one man was detained near Chatham Bus Station.

A machete was seized as part of the response and a man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of knife offences.

Following enquiries Shane Parker, 18, of Freesia Close, Gillingham, was charged with possession of a bladed object in a public place.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 13 July 2024 where he was bailed with conditions.

He is due back at the court on Thursday 10 October.
