Police launch appeal after elderly man dies in fatal Gravesend collision
Officers were called to the scene early on Saturday morning
Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a collision near Gravesend claimed the life of an elderly man.
Officers from Kent Police were called to reports of a collision between a person and a car on the A226 near Gravesend at 11am on Saturday morning (February 24th).
Responders from the police force, the South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue attended the scene to inspect the damage.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found a man in his 80s who had suffered injuries as a result of the crash.
Despite the services' best efforts, the man was later sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed of his passing.
Whilst inspecting the scene, police arrested a man from Higham on suspicion of being unfit to drive and causing death by careless driving.
Police investigations are still ongoing into the collision, with the area surrounding Forge Lane remaining closed to the public, as enquiries continue.
The force is also now appealing to anyone who may have any information on the incident to get in touch as soon as possible.
In particular, officers are looking for any potential witnesses who may have seen the collision take place. As well as this, those with dashcam footage would be particularly welcomed.
