Kent charity blasts unauthorised fireworks display near Gillingham
The Kent Wildlife Trust say bangers and rockets were set off near Longhorn cattle grazing on Darland Banks
A Kent wildlife charity has criticised called people who held an unauthorised fireworks display near grazing cattle as "selfish and irresponsible."
The Kent Wildlife Trust say bangers and rockets were set off on the Darland Banks in Gillingham, close to a herd of longhorn cattle who grazed there.
The charity's Area Manager, Alison Ruyter, confirmed none of the cattle were injured, but said "they would have suffered significant distress when the display was ongoing."
Ms Ruyter also said she was disappointed at littering that had taken place across different nature sites in the county.
This includes the Bluebell Hill nature reserve in Maidstone, where sparklers and cider cans were found at the site - which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
She warned this posed a particular risk to dogs walking in the area.
"The sparklers had been poked into hedgerows in a way that could stab and injure a dog running around the area.”
