Kent campaign group want long-term reassurance after water shortages
Dry Wells Action are holding a public meeting on Wednesday (21/1)
A local Kent campaign group are seeking long-term reassurance after further water shortages last week.
Water was restored to most homes across Kent and Sussex on Friday after almost a week of disruption with South East Water blaming the outage, which began on Saturday (10/1), on Storm Goretti causing burst pipes and power cuts.
At the height of the incident, the company reported that 30,000 customers across the two counties were without water, or experiencing low water pressure.
The shortage also forced a number of schools and businesses to close.
Now, Dry Wells Action are holding a public meeting at the Old Auction House at 7.30pm on Wednesday (21/1) with the hope of getting some answers.
Dry Wells Action is a community action started by Jonathan Hawker calling for the modernisation of water infrastructure in Tunbridge Wells.
Jonathan said:
"For our community, my heart goes out to vulnerable people who've really struggled, the elderly who have struggled to carry bottled water into their homes, let alone lift those bottles, to use them to do the daily tasks of life - It's been a living nightmare.
The purpose of the meeting is to hear what people have to say about what has gone wrong and what will happen in the future. We've done a lot of venting and now we need to focus on solutions.
Anyone is welcome, but we want to hear what our prospects for a decent service in the future are."
Jonathan is hoping representatives from South East Water will attend and also thanked everyone who helped the local community last week.
