Woman sexually assaulted by armed man in Gillingham

Officers say the suspect had a knife when he pulled the victim into an alleyway and assaulted her

Kent Police have launched an investigation following a serious sexual assault on a woman in Gillingham.

It happened on Saunders Street near the junction with St George's Road at approximately 9.25pm on Sunday, 24 August 2025.

According to police reports, the victim was walking when a man allegedly pulled her into an alleyway and sexually assaulted her.

The attacker, who is reported to have been armed with a knife, was disturbed when a dog arrived, prompting him to run off.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 50s, over 6ft tall, with black hair that was short at the sides and curlier on top.

He was reportedly wearing dark jogging bottoms and dark blue Nike trainers at the time.

Detectives are urging any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward and assist with the enquiry.

Residents with CCTV and drivers with dashcam who were in the vicinity on the evening of the incident are also asked to check their footage for anything that may aid the investigation.
