Thanet District Council has issued a fresh warning not to swim in the sea as a "dark organic matter" has washed up.

It comes only 24 hours after they gave the all-clear for swimming at Minnis Bay after an unrelated incident, where dead ragworms, lugworms and shellfish were discovered on 20 May.

The local authority said the material was "not oil" was "odourless and leaves no residue" and "does not appear to be the same substance as previously found".

Dog owners are asked to keep their dogs on a lead at all times when on the beaches.

A spokesperson for the council said they are "actively monitoring the coastline and will continue to provide updates as the situation develops."
