Four charged after violent assault in Maidstone

The victim's head was stamped on and he was left unconscious.

Four suspects have been charged over a violent assault in Maidstone which saw a man repeatedly stamped on the head.

Jonjo Burke, 39, of Woodcut, Maidstone, James Tidy, 33, of Hazel Road, Erith and Gary King, 32, of Bellring Close, Belvedere all appeared before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on 6 August.

They were granted conditional bail until a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 2 October.

James Anderson, 45, of Grainger Walk, Tonbridge was remanded in custody by magistrates. His next hearing will be at Maidstone Crown Court on 3 October.

Kent Police were called to the scene at around 12.20am on 4 August 2024. The victim was reportedly attacked outside a pub in Earl Street and initially headbutted by one of the group, before others joined in.

The assault is reported to have continued as the victim lay on the ground, where he was stamped on and also struck with a glass bottle. The victim was left unconscious and the suspects then left the scene.

Within the next two days, officers made four arrests and the suspects were all later charged with causing grievous bodily harm and affray.

The victim has since been discharged from hospital.
