A drug dealer has been jailed after being found with more than 240 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine in Chatham.

Police say Benjamin Newton-Alfred was using another person's house in Sturla Road as a base from which to supply class A substances.

He was located on a sofa on the ground floor of the property and immediately detained. The constables searched him and recovered a zip-sealed bag from his underwear that contained 200 crack cocaine deals and 41 wraps of heroin.

Located between the cushions of the sofa was around £5,000 in cash and 15 larger wraps of crack cocaine and heroin. The total street value of the seized drugs was estimated to be up to £8,750.

Newton-Alfred was taken into custody and later charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and possession of heroin with intent to supply.

He pleaded guilty to both indictments at Maidstone Crown Court. On Tuesday 5 March 2024, Newton-Alfred, 36, of no fixed address was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.

Detective Constable Nicola Emery, of the Kent Crime Squad, said:

"Newton-Alfred was using another person’s house as a base from which to deal class A drugs.

"He thought this would prevent him being arrested but his confidence was misplaced, and he received an early morning visit from Kent Police officers.

‘The seizure of a considerable amount of cocaine and heroin along with the recovery of his mobile phone gave us the evidence we needed to charge him with drug dealing offences.

"We will also be seeking to confiscate the cash that was undoubtedly the proceeds from his criminal activities."
