Canterbury Cathedral has confirmed its plans to host a second silent disco - despite backlash from religious groups.

After the 90s themed 'Rave in the Nave' in February, the historic venue will host a 1980s version in August.

Senior Clergy and staff say it's way of raising funds for the cathedral, while 'engaging with the wider community'.

It is hoped the 80s-themed event will replicate or do better than the previous event, for which tickets sold out in an hour.

It also generated around £20,000 for the cathedral.

This time there will be two events each evening on August 15 and 16.

The Very Rev Dr David Monteith, Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, previously said: "Cathedrals have always been part of community life in a way much wider than their prime focus as centres of Christian worship and mission.

Dr Monteith added that "whilst dancing of all different kinds has happened in the cathedral over the centuries" he accepted that "some will never agree that dancing and pop music have a place within cathedrals".
