Thanet mum 'overwhelmed' by support since son's death in Broadstairs crash
It's been one year since Ethan Entwistle's death
A mum from Thanet says she had been 'overwhelmed' by the support she has received since the death of her son.
Ethan Entwistle died in a car crash on Dumpton Park Drive in Broadstairs last year.
On Tuesday (1st October), it was the first anniversary of his death, while yesterday (3rd October) would have been his nineteenth birthday.
Speaking to us about how the last year been, his mum Keena Entwistle Lewis said: "I still imagine that Ethan is going to walk through the door.
"He is the last thing I think off when I go to bed at night, if I sleep, he is the first thing I think of when I wake up. It's just the worst nightmare ever, a part of me has been ripped away. "I'm just on edge all the time, I'm expecting bad news again and for something terrible to happen to the people I love and care about. It's the worst feeling, I still want to wake up from this nightmare.
"I just have a complete ball of anxiety in my stomach. I'm fearful for my young song who I constantly message when he is out to make sure he is okay but luckily he understands."
Over the last year, Keena Entwistle Lewis has petitioned for speed calming measures on the 30mph road where Ethan was killed.
However, we told you how Kent County Council said that it will be taking no further action on her petition for now.
At the time, Keena told us: "I'm disappointed, even though I was expecting it I would like them to do further things along here. Hopefully I will continue to be an itch that they can't reach until they listen and do something along this road.
"Ethan always wanted the best for people, he always looked out for people. This is for him, this is in his name, if we can stop just one crash, stop just one person from being seriously hurt then to me Ethan didn't die in vein.
"I'm going to get road safety measures along Dumpton Park Drive, I won't give up until i get them. I would always do whatever I possibly could for my boys and that's not changed now, I will keep fighting for Ethan and other people.
A KCC spokesperson said: “Any death on Kent’s roads is tragic, and we send our deepest condolences to Ethan’s family.
“As with all fatal and serious crashes, Kent Police undertake a robust investigation to ascertain any causation factors in such incidents. The findings are subsequently made known to Kent County Council, which upon advice from the police and the coroner, where necessary, will subsequently undertake any work to help prevent a similar type of incident from occurring again.
"As stated in the report, KCC has implemented some measures since the incident, however, the Police investigation is still ongoing.
“One death on our roads is too many and we will work with Kent Police and other partners to ensure any issues raised are resolved.”
