Customers were evacuated from a supermarket in Broadstairs because of a fire.

Fire crews were sent to the Asda store in Westwood Cross at 1.45pm on Monday to tackle the blaze in the store's yard involving a large number of pallets.

Plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from a site next to the supermarket off Westwood Road.

A spokesperson from Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "Four fire engines are in attendance, and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, are using main jets to extinguish the fire.

"The building has been evacuated."
