Person dies after being hit by a train in the Highlands

A person has died after being struck by a train between Inverness and Aviemore.

Emergency services were called out this morning at around 10am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

After some disruption to services, ScotRail say all lines have now re-opened.

British Transport Police say a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Inverness at around 9.54am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”

Police Scotland are also warning road users to avoid the B9006 between Leanach and Croy.

A spokesperson said: "The B9006 at Culloden Moor is currently closed between Leanach and Croy due to an incident on the rail line.

"Road users are advised to avoid the area."

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said:“We are sorry to customers who have experienced disruption to their journey this morning.

“Anyone delayed by 30 minutes or more is entitled to compensation though our Delay Repay Guarantee.

"Just keep hold of your tickets and claim on the ScotRail website or mobile app.”
