A building in Nairn is “at risk of collapse” following a top floor fire yesterday.

Fire crews were called to Harbour Street around 1pm after reports of a blaze at the flat.

Images from the scene show the top floor of the three-story building had become consumed by flames, with thick plumes of smoke billowing from the roof.

Part of the structure appears to have completely caved in following the incident, but it’s been confirmed no-one was injured.

Sharing an update, Nairn and Cawdor councillor Paul Oldham said: “SFRS believes the building is at risk of collapse and have asked for a structural engineer, Heras fencing and road closure.”

Eight flats within the waterfront property have now been made “uninhabitable”, with NHS Highland and Highland Council helping affected residents.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.09pm on Friday, 9 June to reports of a fire affecting a top floor flat in a three-storey building on Harbour Street, Nairn.

"Operations Control mobilised seven appliances and a height vehicle to the scene to extinguish the fire and crews remain at the scene as they work to make the area safe.

"There are no reported casualties.”
