Worcestershire refugee groups says it's vital Afghan asylum seekers are protected
The Government are set to announce a new resettlement scheme
A Worcestershire refugee group says it's "vital" asylum seekers from Afghanistan are protected.
The country has been taken over by the Taliban who have seized control of the capital Kabul.
The Government is set to announce a "bespoke arrangement" for Afghan refugees, according to the foreign secretary.
Dominic Raab has not confirmed how many will be allowed to come into the UK.
Peter Rendell, a volunteer for Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees, said: "They've had to flee their country and their lives are in danger.
"We've got a choice really, we can either help them or we can turn our backs on them.
"Personally I think we should help them. They're human beings just like us."
In July, US troops were withdrawn from the country which were soon followed by British army personnel.
Since the Taliban took control earlier this week, civilians have stormed Kabul airport in a desperate attempt to flee the country.
Peter continued: "From radio reports it seems as if the Afghan people have been rather badly let down.
"By taking them in it's perhaps a way that we can in some measure repair that for at least some people.
"My own opinion from the people which I come across is that people really are willing to help."
Parliament is being recalled from its summer break today to debate the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.
