Preparation is in place for the threat of potential snow later, Worcestershire County Council's highways team has said.

A yellow met office warning for the weather is scheduled to come in from around 5pm today, before an amber one for heavy snow is then introduced at 8pm, with both running through to tomorrow.

The amber warning is predicting around 10-15cm is "fairly likely", with the potential for 20-30cm in some locations.

Worcestershire County Council's highway maintenance operations manager Chris Riley has confirmed they'll keep a close eye on it and monitor the situation through the likes of their roadside weather sensors and carrying out physical checks through highway winter inspectors.

"We're geared up ready to go," he said.

"We've got plenty of salt, we've got plenty of drivers, and we've got plenty of machines, so we're just waiting to see what the weather throws up.

"Obviously we've got heavy snow forecast so that's what we're going to be prepared for, if we don't happen to have it, then that's fine, but we're prepared should it arrive."

Motorists are also being urged to check before they travel with the warning of the weather potentially leading to disruption and difficult travelling conditions.
