Worcester set to celebrate 50th consecutive Critical Mass bike ride
The event was first held back in the city in June 2021 with one taking place every month since
Cyclists are set to come together in Worcester today to celebrate the city's 50th consecutive Critical Mass ride.
A critical mass is where people travel together on bicycles at a set location and time with the idea being for people to group together to make it safe for each other to ride bicycles through the streets.
It also aims to highlight the number of people who want to use their bicycle on the streets, but are sometimes unable to do so due to concerns about their safety.
Dan Brothwell is the chair of the Bike Worcester group who support the event, he says its been a real journey getting to this point.
"It's fantastic that we've reached this milestone," he said.
"We started doing the critical mass bike rides about four years ago and they've happened every single month for the last four years, so time goes on and this is the 50th and we're really proud to reach this point.
"People have travelled from Birmingham, Redditch, Bromsgrove and Evesham to join the ride and I see absolutely no reason why we won't be here in another four years though and we're hitting our 100th one."
The city hosted its first one in June 2021 with all of them taking place from the Cafe Viaduct at 10am.
