Worcester travel agent hopes Government safe list will get travel industry moving again
The list of safe countries holidaymakers can travel to is expected to be announced imminently
A travel agent in Worcester hopes the Government's safe list of countries holidaymakers can travel to will get the industry moving again.
It will use a traffic light system with countries placed on a green, amber or red list.
It's hoped international travel could resume from May 17 which has been welcomed by airlines and travel agents.
Some however have criticised a decision to make testing mandatory for travellers who have already received both their Covid vaccines.
Jennifer Lynch, manager at Arrange My Escape, said:
"The traffic light system isn't actually anything to do with whether you're vaccinated.
"The prices of holidays have fallen recently and may stay that way for a couple of months which could help make up the cost of having a test on departure and arrival.
Some airlines have begun offering customers travelling to green-list countries cheap test packages with TUI providing them for around ÂŁ20.
The list is hoped to kickstart and boost an industry which has suffered for the past 14 months.
Jennifer Lynch added:
"I think the list though will give people confidence too. You want to go to a country that the Government have recognised as being safe."
"But from our point of view it can be a bit of a nightmare because things can change so quickly.
"For us it creates a lot of work but we have to work from something so I guess it's more positive than negative".
