As Worcester prepares for two landmark events next year, the City Council will discuss proposals that could lead to a £40,000 investment.
The local authority wants to make the most out of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Councillor Lucy Hodgson said: "It is fantastic to have two significant events to celebrate in 2022, bringing people together and giving us something to look forward to".
Celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee
In 2022, Queen Elizabeth will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, after 70 years of service.
To mark the historic occasion, a beacon will be lit from the summit of Fort Royal Park on 2nd June 2022.
The Council has confirmed small grants will be offered to residents who hold street parties.
Further plans for events to be held over the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday (3–5 June 2022) are underway, focusing on historic links between the city and royalty.
Local people and community groups will be encouraged to plant a tree to mark the occasion.
Boosting the community through the Birmingham Commonwealth Games
The Council will also back celebrations for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (28th July – 8th August).
According to the authority, the Birmingham Commonwealth Games is an opportunity to support local businesses and attract more tourists to Worcester.
Moreover, it believes the Games can engage residents in physical exercise.
'Significant economic benefits for Worcester'
Ms Hodgson added: "It is particularly exciting that the 2022 Commonwealth Games is taking place so close to the city.
"It has the potential to deliver significant economic benefits for Worcester and the West Midlands region through tourism, job creation, skills and business opportunities".
The Worcester City Council and Economic Development Committee meeting will take place on Monday 1st November.
