Worcester Cathedral is hosting a thanksgiving service at 4pm on Sunday in remembrance of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It will give thanks to the life of the Queen and everything she did before leading prayers.

Reverend Canon John Paul Hoskins told us: "People are coming in in quite large numbers to pray, to reflect, to sign the condolence book.

"When something of national significance like this happens, some people just want some space and the cathedral to provide that."

He hopes the service will let people have moments of remembering the late Queen. Reverend Hoskins continued: "The Queen was an extraordinary public servant and we want to reflect and to celebrate that. It will be a moment of giving thanks."

Civic leaders will be attending.

A book of condolence is available at the cathedral until Tuesday 20 September. It will then be forwarded onto Buckingham Palace.

People have been leaving flowers and messages of thanks there too.

The Dean of Worcester, Peter Atkinson, said in a statement online: "We are all deeply saddened by the death of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, monarch for the whole of the lives of most of us. We give thanks to God for her life of selfless and unstinting service, to which she dedicated herself at her Coronation.

"We give thanks too for her inspiring Christian witness. We pray for the Royal Family in their time of grief, and especially for our new King and Queen. As at so many times in the history of our City and County down the centuries, we welcome all people to come to Worcester Cathedral to give thanks, to mourn, to remember, to reflect, and to pray for God’s blessing on the new reign.

"GOD SAVE THE KING!"
