Worcester boxer Owen Cooper says he's wanting more success after his recent European title win in Birmingham.

The 23-year-old extended his unbeaten professional fight record to 10 straight victories in March, after stopping his opponent Eithan James to claim his first English and European WBO Welterweight belts.

Owen says it's a night he won't be forgetting anytime soon.

"You dream of having nights like that, it was unbelievable," Owen said.

"When I first saw all my family and girlfriend after the fight, and seeing how what I had achieved had impacted them so much, it was just such an incredible feeling.

"It was amazing, and something that I will never forget, not just for me but also for all of them, it's just a moment that will stay with me forever."

After beating James inside nine rounds, Owen has his eyes set on defending his titles, and chasing down more honours.

He admits though his original plan was never to go into a career in the sport.

"I was never really into boxing growing up, I was always a footballer," he said.

"When I was 13 I thought I'd go down to the gym with my dad boxing in the past, and just get myself into shape for playing football.

"As I got into the gym I just loved the area, and once I started, I couldn't stop."

A decade on from his change in career path, Owen hopes that his latest win can set him up for bigger bouts in the future.

"I think this will now give my career a chance to take flight," Owen said.

"My dream from when I first started was to win the British title, as I think everyone grows up wants to achieve, and hopefully now I'm in a position to go after that.

"As a kid, you always have dreams, and it's funny how things have worked out with me going from one sport to another, but it's played out quite well so far I think, and hopefully we can keep pushing towards more titles."

Owen was a former Midlands champion before having his first bout as a professional in 2019.
