Man arrested following incident in Worcester City Centre

He was arrested on suspicion of a number of charges yesterday morning

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, threats to kill, rape, and possession of an imitation firearm in Worcester City Centre.

West Mercia Police were called at around 9:55am yesterday (Saturday 10th) morning to reports of an assault on Stanley Street, before they located the suspect on Lowesmoor.

Detective Inspector Catherine Taylor said: "I understand that people may have been concerned regarding the large police presence in Worcester City Centre this morning.

“I would like to offer my reassurance to the community that this was an isolated incident and we do not believe there was any risk to the wider public.

“A man was swiftly contained and arrested in connection with the incident, and he remains police custody as further enquiries are carried out.”

There was a large police presence in the City Centre yesterday following the incident.
