West Worcestershire's Conservative MP says it's her aim to get two flood defence projects in Tenbury Wells and Severn Stoke completed.

Dame Harriett Baldwin has asked for reassurance from the new Labour government to help deliver two further flood defence schemes, after she says progress on them has 'stalled', during a debate in parliament on Wednesday.

Water and Flooding Minister Emma Hardy has offered to hold talks to discuss the challenges facing the projects, with the West Worcestershire MP saying helping create protection from flooding in communities is something that has always been a key priority to her, and these defences would help further.

"The area of West Worcestershire is always going to be prone to flooding, as we've got the River Severn, River Avon, and River Teme, so we normally get floods every year," she said.

"Over the years, I've successfully campaigned to get flood defences put into various different communities, and they're all better protected than they used to be when we have those regular winter floods.

"In addition to the schemes that have already been built, I've been campaigning for two schemes which are in the planning stages in Severn Stoke and Tenbury Wells, they've been very long standing campaigns, and I wouldn't want to see any momentum lost with a change in government.

"I called a debate yesterday in parliament to get a response from the new flooding minister to try and reassure me that she will give high priority to these schemes as well, she made some helpful commitments, and I'm grateful that she has offered a meeting."
