Suspected drug dealers and drink drivers arrested in roads crackdown
West Mercia Police has been taking part in a cross-border operation to make roads safer
West Mercia Police has caught suspected drink drivers and drug dealers as part of a cross-border operation.
Taking part in Operation Crossbow with Cheshire, Staffordshire and British Transport Police, cross-border criminals using the regions roads have been targeted.
Officers said a high-profile police presence has been “sending a strong message to those using the roads for criminal activity”.
Chief Inspector Jake Wright, from West Mercia Police, said: “An unapologetic show of force to demonstrate not only our commitment to keeping roads safe and reducing the numbers of those killed and seriously injured on our roads, but also to provide a robust, invisible policing operation to target those who exploit our borders.”
After making arrests and stopping drivers using their mobile phones behind the wheel, he said: “All of which will undoubtedly make our roads safer and make sure that those using them are free from harm and those who are intent on committing crime feel the full force of Operation Crossbow and the efforts of the officers and staff deployed.”
Speeding drivers and those without a licence, insurance or tax have also been targeted by officers, who say working collaboratively with colleagues from other forces often gets good results.
But that doesn’t mean they’re not focussing on crime in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.
Chief Inspector Jake Wright added: “While we perform many operations in isolation and deliver some really excellent results for the communities of West Mercia, we recognise Operation Crossbow and opportunities to work with other forces and take a collaborative approach often yields really, really good results.”
