Teenager arrested after police find hunting knife in rucksack
The 14-year-old's since been bailed.
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in Redditch after a hunting knife was found in his rucksack.
Yesterday afternoon, the town's Safer Neighbourhood Team were involved in a joint operation with West Midlands Police, British Transport Police and Safer Travel at Redditch train station.
When officers arrived at the station, a teenage boy was seen running from one of the trains leaving a rucksack behind. He was quickly caught by officers and having retrieved the rucksack, a large hunting knife was found.
The boy, aged 14, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife/bladed article and has since been bailed.
Inspector Rich Field said: “During the week of action, we’ll be engaging with communities across Redditch and Bromsgrove, to raise awareness of the dangers of knife crime.
“Every knife taken off the streets is another life potentially saved, which is why we’re encouraging people to make the right choices in weather they carry a knife, often people carry this for their protection and in many cases, this can have the opposite effect.
“We’ll be visiting schools to talk to pupils; speaking to them at a young age shows them the risks that knives pose in our communities and ultimately deters offending."
The action comes as part of Operation Sceptre - a national week of anti-knife crime intensification across police forces.
