University students are being reminded of the support that is available for them if they are worried about heading to campus for the first time in the upcoming days and weeks.

People across Herefordshire and Worcestershire will be making their way back to universities across the country to continue or start their studies this September.

Marianne Tay is a lecturer and course lead in mental health and well-being at the University of Worcester, and she says people can be scared for a number of reasons.

She said: "I think the main part is the adjustments for lots of people, and whether that be adjustment for the first time, having lived at home for 18 to 19 years and then moving away to a new city, or a returning student who has been home for the summer.

"Change can be a bit scary, and you can almost guarantee that there is many people at university feeling the exact same, so it's important to try and normalise it and talk to other people about how you might be feeling.

"You really don't want it to get to the point where it's impacting on all your studies, but also your enjoyment of university.

"University is a really exciting time, you get to study this one thing that you're passionate about, but you also get to meet new people, make new friends."
