The speed limit on the A449 road which runs through Much Marcle is set to be cut.

It's been announced that the change will see vehicles now have to travel 40mph through the village instead of the current 50 which is in place.

After inspecting the site in November 2022, council officers have since held talks with the police and Marcle Parish Council about making the alterations, in a bid to keep the road and the area safe.

Work is now set to start on changing the speed signs along with the markings on the tarmac, after the move was met with no objections by residents.

Councillor for Herefordshire Barry Durkin believes if people do listen and adhere to the new limit it will make the right impact.

He said: "This junction has caused many problems throughout time simply because drivers have been going too fast on the road.

"Over the years we've had a car drive into an old shop, and there's a place where children who go to school are dropped off and have to cross the road, so it's important we make it as safe as possible for them.

"I do think that by doing this we can stop those accidents, and we're hoping to have all the work completed by some point in the spring."

In total, the full cost of the process is expected to reach around £12,000, and will also see the 30mph zone which runs through the village extended.
