We'll be able to recycle batteries and small electricals from home in Herefordshire from next week (Monday 7th April).

The Council's bringing in the collections as part of their regular rounds.

It'll include items like irons, hairdryers and alarm clocks.

But we're asked to put them on top of our bins, in a carrier bag, and with the batteries removed - and they'll be taken on either a recycling or waste collection day.

They'll then be put into a separate cage on the refuse vehicles for safety reasons.

Electrical items and batteries should never be put directly into bins as they can cause contamination or a fire.

Councillor Elissa Swinglehurst, Cabinet Member for Environment at Herefordshire Council said: “I am delighted that we are able to provide this enhanced service to all residents across the county.

"Small electric items and batteries present a huge challenge if they are placed in household bins as they cause contamination and increase the risk of fire in collection vehicles or at waste sites. I hope all residents get behind this new service to ensure that even more of our waste is recycled in the right way."
