Redditch United announce winners of new kit competition designed by local children
The club had over 2,000 entries in total
Redditch United have announced the winners of their 'design a kit' competition before their last home game of the season.
The football club had over 2,000 entries in total, which challenged local school children to create new home and away shirts for the team to wear in the 2024-25 campaign.
Chairman David Faulkner says it's been great seeing all the entries, and being able to show off the new kits.
"The smile on the faces of the winners today was just fantastic," David said.
"We went into schools in the area and just gave them a blank template really, then the children went away and got creative with their crayons and produced some brilliant designs.
"All the designs that made it to the final were unbelievable, and in the end it wouldn't of mattered which one we played in next season because they were all just that good."
After being announced in January, the competition saw all the entries narrowed down by staff at the club to a final shortlist of five home and away kits.
They were then turned into physical shirts by kit supplier VX3 for three days of in-person voting, and all 11 finalists were invited along to the Valley Stadium for the winning presentations.
Honour was announced as the winner of the home kit design, and she was delighted when she heard the news she had won.
"It was really good getting called out as the winner," she said with a smile.
Maia, who designed the winning goalkeeper kit, was also thrilled when her name was read out.
"I was really excited when they said my name," she said.
"Before it I was really nervous, but I was so happy that I had won."
The away kit design was won by Lewis who plays for the club's under 12's team, and his shirt was inspired by space.
He said: "I went with a galaxy theme to it because I thought when we were playing in it we would be out of this world.
"With the amount of people here I was nervous when I got called out on the stage as the winner, but it was a great feeling."
On the pitch the team were also celebrating, as they secured their place in the play-offs with a 3-0 win over Needham Market.
