People in Herefordshire and Worcestershire are being urged to make sure they are prepared for potential flooding risks as winter approaches.

An amber weather warning was in place across the region yesterday but was eventually downgraded to yellow, with heavy rainfall impacting places over the weekend.

Matthew Lawrence from the Environment Agency (EA) West Midlands team says it's important people are ready in advance as the wetter weather starts to arrive.

He said: "We've had some really heavy thunderstorms and heavy showers over the weekend just gone, and that led to quite a bit of surface water flooding,

"It's really important to stay safe, something as simple as as just a few centimetres of flood water is enough to lift your car or damage the engine, so people need to make sure they are paying attention to any road closed signs,

"Rural communities can be a bit isolated, and it is really essential that you are aware of your flood risk and have a plan, but it is also really important to look after your neighbour as well."

A new £2.5m flood defence management scheme was completed in Worcestershire last week to protect properties in Toronto Close in Lower Wick.
