A pensioner from Worcestershire is set to enter a plea when he appears in court today (September 7) charged with the murder of his wife in the 1980s.

88-year-old David Venables, of Elgar Way in Kempsey, is accused of killing 48-year-old Brenda Venables who's remains were found in a septic tank in 2019.

She went missing from their then home on Betsmans Way, Kempsey, Worcestershire in 1982.

West Mercia Police launched a murder investigation after her remains were found in a septic tank following routine maintenance work.

After the find, officers searched a bungalow in a cul-de-sac during the same month which lead to the arrest of Mr Venables.

In June, he appeared before Worcestershire Magistrates who sent the case to Birmingham Crown Court for the same day.

Mr Venables remained in police custody before appearing there where a provisional trial date was set for July 25 2022.

In today's hearing he is expected to enter a plea.
