Worcestershire County Council's highways manager says a new zebra crossing installed outside a city school will be key to improving pedestrian safety in the area.

The crossing in Wyld’s Lane has been introduced following safety concerns after a six-year-old boy was hit by a car last November on Stanley Road.

Jon Fraser says this will help with those worries, especially as children head back to school.

"This will have a a big impact in terms of making a controlled and safe crossing point," he said.

"It's in the right place to give maximum benefit, it's very visible, and it's got the new LED beacons which are very bright, so they're able to be seen by approaching motorists.

"We've got the anti-skid high friction surface on the road as well, so I think it's a big addition to road safety in the area."

Councillors say they will also be looking to get the speed limit reduced to 20mph.
