A Herefordshire councillor says building a new transport hub in Hereford would help with some of the traffic problems the city is facing.

Plans for the £10m project which is set to be built at Hereford railway station had planning permission approved in May.

Cabinet member for transport and infrastructure Philip Price says construction could start in December this year, and there's a clear aim for what it would deliver.

He said: "What we're trying to do is to get a modern transport hub where we can get together the rail, bus, taxi coaches, cycling, any other means of transport you want to use into one place.

"If you're looking at the economic viability of Hereford, whether it's the retail, whether it's entertainment, leisure, whatever activity you're looking at in Hereford, without having the infrastructure in place, we cannot get the forward investment into making it happen.

"Hereford has got a problem with traffic, it is car centric, and you will never make it active travel centric without moving some of the cars out of it, so to be able to do that you've got to get public transport to the maximum usage you can."
