More than 13,000 streetlights across Worcestershire have been converted to LED as part of the Worcestershire County Council's on-going £2million ‘Rapid LED Roll-Out’ programme.

The two-year project is designed to save energy, reduce carbon emissions, and reduce any impact on protected species such as bats.

The County Council says, to date, approximately 13,125 streetlights have been converted to LED, leaving less than 8,000 to complete the project this year.

The project includes the installation of bat-friendly street lighting.

The county's first stretch of bat-friendly lights were installed in 2019, in what was believed to be a UK first.

The award-winning project launched in Warndon, Worcester, with bat-friendly street lighting also installed in Pershore.

There are now plans to introduce it on corridors in Evesham, Redditch, and Worcester.
