Up to a million pounds is to be spent mending the roofs of two Herefordshire schools, with the work expected to run on into the new school year.
Up to £522,000 has been allocated for ceiling and roofing works at St Mary’s Primary School, Credenhill near Hereford, including up to £58,000 for internal and external professional fees.
And up to £473,000 is to be spent on roofing works at Weobley High School, including up to £57,000 for professional fees.
A Herefordshire Council spokesperson said: “To minimise disruption to learning, the roofing works will start at the end of the summer term and are estimated to last for 12 to 16 weeks.
“At this stage there are no plans to relocate pupils.”
Central Roofing and Building Services has been awarded the contract for both following successful tenders to the council.
The council said that by not carrying out the roofing works, the schools risk incurring further costs.
