A memorial dedicated to Bromsgrove teenager Thomas Jones has been removed after it was vandalised.

The 18 year-old died after falling into the River Severn in Worcester, back in 2018.

The plaque was only installed 2 weeks ago at Sabrina Footbridge, where he was last seen.

It will be repainted and restored by the county council.

The plaque had sat on the end of the refurbished bridge as it goes onto Hylton Road.

It reads: “With heartfelt thanks to the wonderful community of Worcester for your compassion, kindness and overwhelming support.

In loving memory of Thomas Jones: 30 August 2000 - 18 September 2018”

We've spoken to Thomas' mum Vicki, who says she and the family were devastated when they heard the plaque had been vandalised.

She's thanked everyone who's sent messages of support.

Jon Fraser, Worcestershire County Council Highways, said:

“We are incredibly disappointed that a plaque on Sabrina Bridge in Worcester, unveiled just two weeks ago, in memory of Thomas Jones, has been vandalised.

The family has been notified and plans are in place to remove the plaque so that it can be repainted and restored.”
