West Mercia Police says extra officers will continue to be in the area after a man fell from the roof of Threadneedle House on Alcester Street in Redditch yesterday afternoon (Thursday 7 March).

Enquiries are being carried out to establish the circumstances of the incident.

However, initial enquiries suggest there was an altercation between a group of people on the roof shortly before the man, who is in his 20s, fell.

The man was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Searches are ongoing to locate two men, who it is believed were on the roof at the time of the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector, Gareth Lougher, said: “There is an increased police presence in Redditch as we carry out our enquiries and I know some people may be concerned.

“We do not believe there is any wider risk to the public however understand there has been speculation a firearm was discharged. We have established this has not been the case and a firearm has not been discharged.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation as we deal with the incident and carry out searches of the area.”

In a post on their website, West Mercia Police say they are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Detective Inspector Warren Matthews said: “You will continue to see extra officers around Threadneedle House today as we continue our investigation.

“We understand this incident has caused concern and I would like to reiterate that there is no wider risk to the public. Despite some speculation we can confirm that a firearm was not discharged during the incident.

“If you were in Alcester Street or the surrounding area yesterday afternoon and saw the man fall or saw any unusual activity, please contact me."
